RAAF F-35A Lightning II

The RAAF F-35A Lightning II is the Australian Defence Force’s first fifth-generation air combat capability. It is a highly advanced multi-role, supersonic, stealth fighter designed to meet Australia’s requirements to defeat current and emerging threats.

The F-35A incorporates advanced sensor systems and data fusion technology, enabling it to collect, process, and share information across the battlespace at significantly greater speed and scale than previous-generation aircraft. This enhances situational awareness for the pilot and broader force network.

The aircraft is capable of supersonic flight while maintaining low observable (stealth) characteristics. It provides high levels of acceleration, agility, and up to 9G manoeuvrability, supported by advanced avionics systems that enhance pilot effectiveness and survivability in contested environments.

The Royal Australian Air Force operates three F-35A Lightning II squadrons located at:
• RAAF Base Williamtown (NSW)
• RAAF Base Tindal (NT)
• No. 2 Operational Conversion Unit, RAAF Base Williamtown (NSW)

Please note that all military participation is subject to operational availability and tasking requirements.
